Alternator
An alternator is a device that converts the motion of the boat's engine into electrical energy and allows the batteries to be charged. Electricity is vital at sea, which is why the alternator is considered one of the essential components of our boat.
Starter Motor
The starter motor is a device that operates with energy from the battery when the ignition key or starter button is activated, initiating the first movement of the boat's engine. It is one of the components that requires the highest voltage for our boat to function.
When the ignition is engaged on the boat, a high current is sent from the battery to the starter solenoid. The incoming current activates the magnetic field, allowing the connected collector to initiate the rotational and advancing movement of the gear.
The rotational force generated by the starter motor engages the starter gear with the flywheel gear connected to the crankshaft, allowing it to rotate. The flywheel then transmits the resulting rotational force to the crankshaft.
It allows the mixture of fuel and air present in the atmosphere to enter the engine, enabling the pistons to initiate their first movement. This provides the initial motion to the engine.
Regular maintenance and repairs of the equipment that initiates such a complex sequence of operations on our boat are of great importance. Daphne Marine is happy to be your partner in installation and maintenance solutions.
