Watermakers
The importance of fresh water at sea is significant, and sufficient storage is often not possible on every boat. Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, which have been used worldwide for a long time, have become a necessity rather than a luxury for converting seawater into fresh water due to rapidly advancing technologies. This system uses membranes with holes the size of one-thousandth of a micron, functioning as molecular sieves, to filter out minerals from seawater under high pressure (55-60 bar), allowing fresh water to be extracted on the other side.
Minimum Features Required in a Watermaker Should Include:
Proper Design
It is important to use the right pump with the correct membrane. For example, using a 4-inch membrane with pumps that have a capacity of 11 or 15 liters per minute is a design flaw and can shorten the lifespan of the membrane.
The features listed above are the minimum requirements that every watermaker should possess. These features ensure that the device operates for an extended period with minimal issues, thereby reducing medium- and long-term costs. Additionally, while it is optional, we recommend that our customers opt for automatic devices. Often, users forget to open and close the pressure valve, resulting in potential damage to the membranes or the device not performing reverse flushing.
